Truth is . . .

Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no fault in Him at all.
(John 18:38 NKJV)

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
(John 17:17 NKJV)

Will you be glad when the elections are finally over? I mean, are you tired of all the political ads? Who do you believe? Who is telling the truth about whom? Even the politicians themselves can be confusing when answering a question asked them directly! Some say there is no absolute truth; they are wrong. Old Pilate asked that question thousands of years ago. Why didn’t Jesus answer him with the same words He used when He prayed to His Father in the garden the night before? So the Scripture would be fulfilled (Isaiah 53:7). Jesus knew that Pilate knew the truth; the problem is that Pilate refused to act on it; sounds a lot like some of us. Truth, like beauty it seems, is in the eye of the beholder these days. I saw a bumper sticker that read: “God said it. I believe it. That settles it.” Listen, it is settled whether we believe it or not. Because we believe it does not make it the truth: It is the truth because God said it.
